Statement of Faith
THE HOLY SCRIPTURESWe believe the Scriptures of the Old Testament and New Testament are verbally inspired by God and therefore without error in the original manuscripts.GODWe believe in the only true God, and that there is no other God beside Him. We believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are one God, having precisely the same nature and exist in absolute unity. THE FATHERWe believe that God the Father is the Creator of all we see and know, that He is perfect in holiness, that His power is without limit, and that His divine plan is intimate in detail and cannot fail. JESUS CHRISTWe believe that Jesus Christ is absolute in deity, and that He has eternally existed as the Son, and was active in the creation of all things. He lived a sinless life and offered Himself as the atonement for the sins of all men. THE HOLY SPIRITWe believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person, equal with God the Father and God the Son and of the same nature. He was active in the creation, and His purpose is to bring glory to Jesus Christ. THE SPIRIT REALMWe believe that God created an innumerable company of sinless beings known as angels. Many of these continue in their holy state and are the ministers of God. Some of these, led by Lucifer, rebelled against God, became His enemies and oppose Him and His work. CREATIONWe believe in the Genesis account as the accurate record of the creation of all physical things. MANKINDWe believe that man was originally created in the image and after the likeness of God, and that God created mankind for His own glory. Though dwelling in perfection, mankind fell from this sinless, innocent, and holy state, through voluntary transgression of Gods command. As a result of this sin, all mankind is born with a sin nature and chooses to sin, therefore justly falling under the righteous wrath of God, and leaving man without excuse.SALVATIONWe believe that salvation is only by grace through the substitutionary work of Jesus Christ. He paid the full redemptive price, fully satisfying God's righteous demands by suffering the death penalty for man's guilt. THE CHURCHWe believe that the church has been established by Jesus Christ, and that it is made up of individuals who have been saved. The church is the body of Christ and is tasked with carrying on His work until He returns.THINGS TO COME-Rapture of the Church. We believe that Jesus Christ will return to the atmosphere of this earth and take those who believe in Him to Heaven.-Tribulation. We believe that the rapture of the Church will be followed on earth by a temporary peace, followed by tremendous suffering.-Second Coming. We believe that following the tribulation, Christ will return physically to the earth with His glorified saints to establish the millennial kingdom.-Eternal State. We believe that the unsaved men of all ages will be resurrected and judged according to their works.

About Restoring Hope International

In South Africa, a country with more than 1.4 million AIDS orphans , you don’'t have to go far to meet children who are sick, abandoned, starving, afraid and without a place to call home. Most never receive the love and education necessary to live healthy lifestyles, making it next to impossible to break the devastating foothold that AIDS has on this nation until now.In 2008, a dedicated group of individuals established Restoring Hope International (RHI), a non-profit focused on breaking the destructive cycle of AIDS in South Africa, specifically in the Welkom area. Today, RHI’'s board of directors is working feverishly to make it possible for RHI field staff and qualified South African house mothers to raise abandoned and orphaned children in safe, family home environments.RHI’s goal is to reach the next generation for Christ. But to do it, we need help from people like you. Please get to know our Board members. Ask them talk to you, your family, your group or organization about RHI. Each is eager to share the vision and, with your help, begin changing lives.

What Connie Says About RHI: Through RHI, I am excited about being able to reach out to a nation, giving its children both tangible and intangible hope, and helping these children see that God has a future for them.About Connie: Connie is a dedicated volunteer who enjoys spending time with, and helping people. Her passion for children has led her to be a part in establishing the O.W.L. Ministry (for special needs children) in her church. She serves on C.A.S.A. (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for the Polk County Juvenile Courts and is involved in her childrens school district in many areas. She attended Faith Baptist Bible College and received her BS degree from Upper Iowa University. Connie and her husband Kevin and three children worship at Slater Baptist Church and are involved in many ministries there.

What Robert Says About RHI: After seeing South Africa first-hand, I know that the door is wide open there. RHI is a tool that allows God to work, change lives for the better and give people hope. In turn, God can use them to further improve their community, state and ultimately their nation.About Robert: Bob is a husband, father, grandfather, woodworker and a fan of model aeronautics. He and his wife Susan have traveled to South Africa and led work teams to accomplish many projects. Bobs family attends Slater Baptist in Slater, Iowa, and have long believed in the value of teaching Christian principles. Their three adult children are passing these teachings on to the next generationa model that RHI will emulate in South Africa for todays children and their future families. Bob attended Bob Jones University.

What Louis Says About RHI: “Amber’s and my love for the people in South Africa— - specifically those impacted by HIV/AIDS—has led us to join RHI in its effort to positively change the lives of this generation, and to empower them to change the lives of those who follow. We have seen tremendous suffering. Yet we also have seen God change the hearts and lives of so many. It’s exciting to see these children not only fed, sheltered, clothed and educated, but also spiritually equipped to fulfill God’s commands.”About Louis: After earning his pastoral degree from Faith Baptist Bible College in Des Moines, Iowa, Louis and his wife Amber were involved in the children’s ministries of Slater Baptist Church. Both of them were interested in missions outreach at a young age, participating in many church mission trips, and actively pursuing a career in field work. Because they felt called to extend their ministry to children, they moved to Welkom, South Africa with their 2-year-old daughter, Meredith, in 2008, and have since helped implement several outreach programs—a new church, evangelism and discipleship, Bible Clubs, Philosophy and Religion education in a Welkom area public school, among others. Louis and Amber’s second child, Drake, was born in September 2008.

What Brian Says About RHI: “After three years living in South Africa and helping children who have nothing, I am excited to be part of RHI and building the Restoring Hope Village from the ground up. My wife and I love working with the people, especially the children of South Africa. It is exciting to see a child'’s life completely change before our eyes, not only in physical ways through nursing them to health, but also seeing them come to understand that Jesus loves them, as their Father. The need is great and can be overwhelming at times, but I take joy in knowing that we can help those whom the Lord brings to our door.”About Brian: His love for South Africa and its people prompted Brian and his wife, Lois, to move there in 2006 to develop the ministry of the Pines Christian Care Centre for Children, a children’s home for young children and youth. Prior to 2006, Brian and his wife did exploratory work trips to South Africa and realized the great need specifically for children affected by AIDS/HIV. Today their love for children and desire to see them know Christ drive their ministry with RHI; they are responsible for developing and operating Restoring Hope Village facilities. Brian and Lois have two small children, Liam and Lindie.

What Val says about RHI: Having lived in South Africa all my life and experiencing the dramatic changes that have taken place over the past 20 years in my country, I am blessed to be involved with RHI. This outreach is necessary to the truly innocent victims in the tragedy of AIDS, namely the infected and affected children of fractured homes. I, personally, need to have my hope restored for the future of our wonderful country, where there is so much ungodliness in high places. To think that RHI could well play a role, however small, in bringing to adulthood a group of responsible Christian leaders is infinitely encouraging and exciting. The capacity for such a program as the RHI Village in our community is immense and I am proud to be a part of the vision.About Val: Born and raised in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Val attended the Collegiate School for Girls and later received her nurses training at the Provincial Hospital in Port Elizabeth. She became a midwife at Johannesburgs Queen Victoria Maternity. She spent two years working in the United Kingdom and then returned to Cape Town, S.A. as a District Nurse. After moving to Welkom in 1971, she worked as director of Life Line before co-founding and directing Goldfields Hospice. She retired in 1988 but today is active in the community, her church and her faith. She and her husband Danie have two married sons and four grandchildren.

What Philip Says About RHI: RHI has a long term goal to change a number of children into godfearing adults with high moral standards who can again influence their community. Knowing the community where they will live, I want to be a part of the plan and hopefully see some change in the approach of their eventual peers to life.About Philip: Philip is the father of 4 children, 10-year-old twins Sybrand and Magriet; Lisa, 7; and Talitha, 3. He has been married to Alida for 14 years. After his studies in Bloemfontein to become an orthopedic surgeon, he moved to Welkom in 2005. In addition to his deep love for the Lord, Philip loves to do any kind of woodwork when he has time.

Restoring Hope Village, a community in Welkom, South Africa, is being built. The Village is currently being filled with children who have been orphaned because of HIV/AIDS. Through Restoring Hope Village, we will meet the physical and spiritual needs of children, train them in valuable life skills, and equip them to carry on God's work throughout their country.
Restoring Hope Village will be staffed by native, Christian house parents in a family- type environment. Here, vulnerable children will receive much-needed love, food and housing, along with the education thats essential to living healthy lifestyles and Christ-like lives.The children cared for in Restoring Hope Village will learn to understand and appreciate their culture. As they grow into adults, theyll be equipped to succeed outside the village and to pass their Christian values and healthy behaviors on to future generations.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What specific benefits will the child I sponsor receive?Housing, clothing, food, education, Christian teaching, and a loving, spiritual environment. Also, you will be giving the emotional security in knowing that God is providing someone who is lovingly taking care of his or her needs.2. Will I be the only person sponsoring the child I'm helping?Some children may have multiple sponsors. We would like to have at least three sponsors per child, both to cover the full cost of caring for the child, as well as to give the child a connection with more than just one individual or family.3. If I must discontinue my sponsorship, what happens to the child I'm helping?The child will continue to be cared for until God provides another sponsor for the child.4. How long should my sponsorship last?We encourage you to follow God's leading in this. We prefer our sponsors to form long- lasting relationships with the children and for sponsorship to last up to the age of 18, or until the child is able to be transitioned into the community.5. How can I communicate with the child I sponsor?You can communicate via email to your child, write letters, send gifts, or even occasionally speak to your child by phone.6. Will my child write to me?The children generally love to communicate with their sponsors. This may be in the form of thank you letters, cards, emails, or other means. Some children do this more frequently than others.7. Can I send gifts to my child?Yes, the children love to receive gifts - especially at Christmas time and on their birthday. Financial gift amounts that are sometimes sent with correspondence normally range between $10 and $20. The children are also grateful to receive pictures of you and your family. We have created some giving guidelines. Please ask if you would like to view the guidelines.8. What makes RHIs sponsorship program stand out among other childcare organizations?We have a tremendous amount of personal communication. In the past most of our sponsors have come from people who have visited us on a team. They get to know their child personally, and have received personal notes, updates, and even phone calls from their child. In addition, 100% of the funds received through our sponsorship program support the ministry directly. Nothing is taken off the top to pay for a large and elaborate home office structure.9. Is RHI affiliated with one particular church or denomination?No. RHI is a Christian non-profit, and is not affiliated with any denominations. However, we are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and are accountable to them. RHI has a doctrinal statement and we only partner with churches or denominations that agree with our doctrinal position.
